Opinion: Celtic veteran must take leading role in remaining fixtures
Celtic captain Callum McGregor faces perhaps his biggest test as Hoops skipper yet in helping the team get over the recent Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Rangers.
The Hoops captain had led the team to a 33-game domestic unbeaten run, which unfortunately came to an end at Hampden, and there is no time to dwell on that defeat as the Bhoys have a league title to win, starting with the trip to Ross County on Sunday.
It will be interesting to see how the team responds to a setback in such a big game, as if the Hoops had won the derby then there was a real chance of the team winning the treble,
Interestingly, after the game at Hampden ended the Celtic went into a huddle, similar to what the team does before the start of the game, and that was perhaps an attempt to remind the players that they should be proud of what they have achieved so far this season, but there is still a job to be done, to win the Premiership title.
McGregor will need to take a leading role in the Hoops side over the next five games, and to be fair he looks to be a player that is more than capable of doing just that.
McGregor can look to Scott Brown as an example of a Celtic captain that managed to get the team to respond to poor results, he did it numerous times over the years, and as McGregor played in a Celtic team with Brown for years, maybe McGregor will use some of Brown’s captaincy skills to help the Hoops win the title.
Brown would likely have approved of the players getting into the post-match huddle after the game at Hampden, to show that they were together as one after the defeat.
McGregor hopefully made it clear to his teammates that they haven’t become a bad team after losing one game in extra time to a Rangers team that are in the last
