Scott Brown retires: When Celtic icon celebrated after being hacked down v Aberdeen

Scott Brown has announced his retirement from football.

Brown made his professional debut with Hibernian before moving to Celtic in 2007.

He established himself as a club legend in a hugely successful 14-year spell with The Bhoys, playing 619 times and helping them to 22 trophies.

He left the club in 2021 and has decided to hang up his boots after spending one season at Aberdeen.

“It’s been a very difficult decision to call time on my playing career but I’ll be 37 next month and I feel the time is right for me to announce that I’m retiring in order to focus fully on becoming a manager,” he told Record Sport.

“It’s the end of one chapter but the start of a new one and I’m excited about what the future might hold.”

Brown was a tough-tackling midfielder who developed a reputation as a hard man.

He loved a battle on the pitch and that idea is no better than supported than his actions against Aberdeen in their Scottish Premiership clash in February 2018.

Celtic scored twice in seven second half minutes to secure the victory.

The second was scored by Kieran Tierney in the 84th minute and, seconds after the restart, Brown was kicked all over the place by Aberdeen players.

Brown was sent to the ground with a poor challenge. He managed to get up and retain possession, only to be wiped out again by a horrendous tackle by Sam Cosgrove.

The Celtic captain then had the ball kicked at him from close range to compound his punishment.

Many players would have stayed on the ground in pain, but not Brown. He got up and started celebrating like a madman.

It was all kicking off behind him and Cosgrove was sent off for his challenge. That wasn’t of great
