On loan Hull KR duo inspire Midlands Hurricanes to famous win over Hunslet

On loan Hull KR duo Bailey Dawson and Tom Wilkinson inspired Midlands Hurricanes to a famous 24-0 away victory over Hunslet on Friday night. The forwards joined the league one outfit until the end of the 2022 season, with Dawson making his debut last week in the heavy defeat to league leaders Keighley Cougars, whereas Wilkinson made his Hurricanes bow in the empathic win over Hunslet.

It was Wilkinson who opened the scoring in the contest as he scooted over from dummy half just five minutes into his debut and his efforts throughout the game earned him the man of the match award.

Dawson impressed as well. The back-rower got through plenty of work and led from the front against some experienced forwards and former Hull KR players Matty Beharrell and Macauley Hallett.

It was a momentous day for the side, as it was the first time they had beaten a Northern team away from home, either as the Hurricanes or the Coventry Bears. They now sit eighth on the league one ladder and have a big game on the horizon against Oldham, who they would leapfrog with a win.

Rovers have used the year to send a number of their young up and coming talent to the lower leagues and now, they're starting to make a big impact.
