Omar Berrada told why he's making 'step up' joining Manchester United from Man City

Dimitar Berbatov believes Omar Berrada has made a "step up" by leaving Manchester City to join Manchester United.

Berrada left his role as chief football operations officer at City to take on the role of chief executive at United earlier this month. The appointment is one of the first following the investment from INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe which was announced last month.

Berrada had previously worked at the Etihad Stadium for more than 12 years, having been hired back in 2011. He will now be working at Old Trafford as the new era at the club begins under Ratcliffe's leadership.

City boss Pep Guardiola was asked about Berrada's switch from the Etihad to Old Trafford and insisted there was no animosity because of the move. Now Berbatov, who scored 56 goals in 149 games for United, has explained why he hopes Berrada's appointment will result in a new trajectory of success for his former club.

"I heard some former Man United players say they were pleasantly shocked at the news," Berbatov told Betfair. "Obviously, Omar Berrada has been part of a lot of Man City's recent success, so he has the knowledge to try and help Man United close the gap between themselves and Man City. It's like if a player completed a transfer. You never know how it will go or if it will be successful.
