Ole Gunnar Solskjaer favourite has busted Manchester United 'myth' under Erik ten Hag

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has gone full circle since joining Manchester United for £50million four years ago.

Signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only 12 months after Jose Mourinho brought in Diogo Dalot as his preferred choice at right-back, the pair have been tussling for one shirt ever since. Dalot appeared to be in the ascendancy under Erik ten Hag at this stage last season, but Wan-Bissaka is currently the man in possession.

You could even argue the ex-Crystal Palace defender is undroppable for Ten Hag right now. He had that status when Solskjaer was at the helm - perhaps before time - but Wan-Bissaka has improved drastically in recent months, so much so the Dutchman has been forced to rework his transfer blueprint.

United were expected to target another right-back when Ten Hag was first appointed with names such as Jeremie Frimpong, Benjamin Pavard and Denzel Dumfries all doing the rounds. But the club's No.29 is now seemingly here to stay.

Solskjaer predicted Wan-Bissaka would become a mainstay soon after his big-money arrival. It didn't happen on his watch, but the latter has proved his former manager right and busted one or two myths in the process.

"We saw an exceptional defender when I watched him last season," said the Norwegian after Wan-Bissaka's debut campaign. "It's also in him [attacking play], because he's been a winger, the best full-backs at the moment, sometimes they have been wingers. We rely on the full-backs to go forward in the way we want to play. I'm very pleased with his progress."
