Nottingham Forest striker provides injury update as Reds face transfer tussle

Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge is making progress in his recovery from a groin injury as he aims to be fit for the start of the Premier League season.

After playing a key part in the Reds’ promotion success, the 23-year-old missed the celebration event in Market Square as he went to Germany for an operation. He has been working hard on his rehabilitation over the summer and is currently with his teammates for a training camp in Spain.

Surridge says he is keen not to put a timeframe on his return. However, he is eager to be available for the opening game of the campaign, when Steve Cooper’s side make the trip to face Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest are said to be working on deals for full-backs Omar Richards and Neco Williams as Steve Cooper looks to continue to add to his squad.

It is increasingly likely that right wing-back Djed Spence, who impressed on loan with Forest last season, is on his way to Tottenham this summer. That leaves the Reds on the lookout for a replacement as well as continuing to strengthen in preparation for the Premier League.

According to the Athletic , Cooper has identified the full-back positions as a key area to strengthen over the transfer window. The Reds have already been linked with a number of players in the position, with the club holding interest in Man City’s Issa Kabore.

Forest have also been linked with Liverpool’s Williams and Bayern Munich’s Richards. The Athletic say that the club are ‘working on’ permanent deals for the two players and are hoping that agreements can be reached for the duo ‘by the weekend’.
