Nine years after a charity do, a phone call to a salon owner would save a stranger's life

Nine years after attending a charity event, Sarah LeGuen received a phone call that would end up saving the life of a stranger.

The 32-year-old beauty salon owner visited an event held by DKMS, a charity which works to fight blood cancer and encourages people to register on the blood stem cell register. Today, she admits she admitted that she knew very little about what it involved

She said: "I went down to a registration event at a school there was a young child from Liverpool who was ill and DKMS were recruiting donors to help them. It was very easy to register a few simple swabs. To be honest, I didn't know anything about stem cell donation before that, but at the time I thought: 'I just want to do my bit'."

Years after that seemingly uneventful day, Sarah would receive a call that would change her life.

DKMS informed her that she might be a match for a blood cancer patient in need of a stem cell transplant. Without any doubt, Sarah decided to proceed with the donation.

Reflecting on the experience, Sarah shared: "It was quite surreal. But there was no question in my mind that I would go ahead with the donation. It actually inspired me to change my lifestyle I wanted to keep myself healthy and completely available for the person that needed me."

Thanks to her selfless act, Sarah has offered a stranger across the ocean a second chance at life. Due to strict anonymity rules post-donation, she knows very little about the recipient, only that the woman is in her sixties or seventies and resides in America, reports the Liverpool Echo.
