Nils Koppen announced as Rangers technical director and vows to get club challenging for EVERY trophy

Nils Koppen has been announced as Rangers' new technical director.

The Belgian was appointed as director of football recruitment at the Light Blues a year ago. He joined after after previous sporting director Ross Wilson left for Premier League Nottingham Forest. And now Koppen has been promoted into a more senior position.

The 39-year-old's move comes at a time when Rangers are still without a permanent chairman or chief executive and with speculation over Koppen's compatriot Philippe Clement after early season struggles and speculation linking him with the Belgian national team job. Koppen previously worked under Clement in the youth academy at Genk between 2016 and 2018.

Koppen will continue to oversee the club’s transfer strategy while also taking on overall responsibility for the club’s men’s Academy, medical, football operations, performance and analysis departments. Koppen told the club website: "I am both honoured and delighted to take up the role of Technical Director here at Rangers. Winning is all that matters at this club, and it is my job to ensure that everything that supports our men’s first team, from recruitment, to the Academy, medical, performance, operations, analysis, and everything in-between, is at as high a level as possible.
