'Nightmare' traffic near Stockport Pyramid and M60 with TWO sets of roadworks

Drivers have described traffic near the Stockport Pyramid and M60 as a 'nightmare' through rush-hour due to roadworks.

A two-way traffic control system is currently in place on Brinksway near where the road joins the Stockport Pyramid roundabout. Cadent gas is carrying out 'utility repair and maintenance works' within the roadworks.

The traffic control system came into place yesterday (January 16) and will last until Monday, according to the One Network website. Another set of roadworks is also in place on Didsbury Road, just over the Stockport Pyramid roundabout from Brinksway.

A lane closure is in place here, near Pets at Home, as 'maintenance work' is carried out by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. These roadworks are set to be in place until 3.30pm tomorrow.

Drivers faced heavy traffic near the Stockport Pyramid this morning as they tried to get to work. The roadworks are likely to have impacted queues in the area, as well as the icy and cold weather.

One driver told the Manchester Evening News: "It usually takes me about 15 minutes to zip down Brinksway, onto the Pyramid roundabout, onto the M60 and up to Oldham. Brinksway was jammed all the way up to Cheadle Heath.

"The roundabout was an absolute nightmare. Two sets of roadworks at once just caused chaos."

According to Transport for Greater Manchester, the roadworks on Brinksway are classed as 'high-impact'. The roadworks on Didsbury Road are classed as 'medium-impact' works.

Both Cadent and Stockport Council have been contacted for a further comment.
