Nicky Devlin reveals intense Aberdeen FC induction message from Graeme Shinnie after Livingston switch
Nicky Devlin has only been at Aberdeen five minutes, but feels like he's been a Red for years.
The right back made his Dons debut in Wednesday’s 9-0 friendly victory over Turriff United. Ester Sokler stole the show with four second half goals on his first outing under Barry Robson, whereas Devlin had a quieter start to life in the North East. The former Livingston stalwart is used to moving clubs, but admitted he knew no-one in the Pittodrie dressing room before making the switch from West Lothian,
But the welcoming committee have made the transition a smooth one. Skipper Graeme Shinnie in particular has made sure he felt settled, outright telling the new recruit that Aberdeen is a club that gives you that feeling. And Devlin reckons the relationships already formed over the summer bode well for the new season. He told Red TV: "It's fantastic here, to be fair.
“It has made it so easy for me coming in as sometimes it can be difficult moving clubs and going into different dressing rooms. I hadn't played with anyone here before but the boys have made it very easy.
"You do feel like you have been here for a few years already and that's what [Graeme] Shinnie has been in my ear about every day! You can see that relationships are forming all over the park, and we will need that going into the season.
"I think you saw a lot of the stuff that we had been working on, even if we have only been back for 10 or 11 days. Over in Portugal we were out on the pitch twice a day working on a lot of stuff and I think you saw that there.”
