Nick Montgomery stews over Rangers goal plus 'illegal' Clement incident and claims he didn't expect Ibrox favours

Peeved Nick Montgomery believes Rangers were on the receiving end of two favourable decisions during Hibs' bruising 4-0 defeat at Ibrox.

The former Central Coast Mariners boss was left miffed VAR wasn't asked to take a second look at the build-up to Nico Raskin's long-range pearler that put Philippe Clement's side 2-0 up just before the break in first game in charge. The Leith gaffer felt Joe Newell had been fouled by Sam Lammers in the build-up to Nico Raskin’s long-range strike. And Montgomery reckons the Belgian was fortunate not to be reprimanded as the Hibs boss reckoned Clement cushioned the ball on the touchline when it was still on play.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound about the events before Raskin found the net, he said: "The second goal, I really genuinely believe it is a foul on Newell. I've seen it again, i feel he has come through the back of the achilles to kick the ball. I honestly thought VAR would pull that up but it wasn't to be."

But it was an incident involving Clement which set Montgomery off as he reckons the new man in Govan committed a foul which got Derek McInnes his marching order before the international break, He added: "I think everyone can see the ball hasn't gone out. I was standing on the line, Derek McInnes got sent off the other week for the ball actually going out and stepping on the line. You want consistency.

"I don't think I would ever step on the pitch and control the ball. If he had any doubt there is no way you step on the pitch. From where I was, it didn't go out, the fourth official didn't think it had gone out. When that happens, you're probably think it's not going to be your day because at that point they have got 12 men on the pitch and that's illegal."
