Nick Montgomery lets 'silly' Lewis Miller red card slide as Hibs boss reveals what he told goal hero after row

Nick Montgomery let red carded Lewis Miller off the hook - after his goal took Hibs back into the top six.

The Australian international got sent off for two yellow cards but he also provided the moment that mattered with his second half header at on-form Dundee. Montgomery was disappointed that Miller needless got cautioned in a needless altercation with Owen Beck and then got carded again for fouling the same player.

Hibs, who moved into fifth, had gone ahead through Jair Tavares and Miller before he got ordered off and then Dundee pulled a late consolation goal back from Beck. Montgomery said: “The first booking was silly. He didn’t need to get involved in the altercation and that’s what I’ve told him. You pick up a silly booking and you’re walking a tightrope. His second was maybe harsh but I’ve not seen it.

“In that moment you regret the first one because it affects you and the team but he scored a winning goal with the header so I’ll let him off.”

Montgomery was full of praise as Jair Tavares continued his renaissance under him. He wasn't even training with the first-team under Lee Johnson.

The Hibs boss, who has seen his team go four games unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership, added: “He’s been outstanding. Everyone knows his story. He’s been in the media with what he went through.

“He’s had a really tough time but most sportsmen do and it showed his character. He deserved his goal, he’s been one of our most consistent players.”
