Brendan Rodgers hit with brutal Celtic stats bomb as irked boss names the 'extra annoyance' after Motherwell slip

Frustrated Brendan Rodgers has put the focus on the "annoyance" of Celtic's penalty misses after drawing with Motherwell.

Despite Luis Palma missing a spot-kick earlier in the game, the Hoops appeared to have won the Scottish Premiership clash thanks to David Turnbull's penalty in the closing minutes at Celtic Park. However, the battling Steelmen wouldn't be denied their point as Jon Obika found the net late on as he tapped the ball into the net in the six-yard box.

Stuart Kettlewell's struggling side will have been delighted to take a point back to Fir Park - but Rodgers was left irked by the showing as he singled out missed penalty kicks as costly for his side so far this term after Honduran Palma missed at the decisive moment. Celtic have been awarded eight penalties in all competitions this season and have missed three of them

Asked if missing penalties was an "extra annoyance", Rodgers told BBC Sportsound: "Yes, they are key moments in the game. It's something we have spoken on and actually worked on, but it's taking that into the game and being decisive with it.

"It's something we continually have to work on, these pressure moments, and like I say they are decisive moments in the game. We are disappointed to not get the first one and David scores the second well. That gives us a foot up in the game and we control the ball after that, but then we give away the corner and sadly for we concede."

When pointed out that it was the only Motherwell corner of the half, Rodgers said: "Yeah, we defended what we had to in the game. We counter-pressed the game. They have decent speed at the top end of the pitch, but yeah we have to deal with that better."
