Nick Montgomery issues defiant Hibs message as he insists NOTHING has changed over his Easter Road future

Nick Montgomery has declared NOTHING has changed over his position at Hibs and he is confident he will remain in the dugout next season.

The boos rang around Easter Road this afternoon as the men from Leith suffered a 4-0 battering by Aberdeen. The capital club are playing in the bottom six after missing out on a place in the top half along with the Dons. In the wake of not landing that target, the club released a statement labelling the failure as 'simply unacceptable' and revealed a full review of the club's football structure would take place. Part of that included discussions with Montgomery to understand what has gone wrong this campaign with the understanding that results MUST improve.

Asked how confident he was to finish off this campaign and build a squad for the new season, he told BBC Sportsound: "I am confident because when I came to the club that is what we spoke about. Getting through this season and trying reach the targets. The club is in a transition. There is a Black Knight investment with a lot of stuff going on for the club moving forward but that is not happening now that is something for the future. I am confident unless something has changed then the plan was to always rebuild."

Asked if anything has changed since the club statement, he responded: "No nothing has changed since that statement has come out."

He continued: "There has been a lot of talk about that statement. I had the backing of the club and we just missed out by 20 seconds on the top six. That is obviously difficult but with that comes a lot of scrutiny, pressure and negativity.

"People have taken many different things from that statement that I never discussed with the board. It was more of a statement to say for the club as a club
