Bruno Fernandes makes controversial statement about Manchester United's display vs Brentford

Bruno Fernandes thinks Manchester United deserved to beat Brentford on Saturday because they 'controlled the game'.

United were aware of the importance of winning against Brentford after back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, but they made a nightmare start to the game when conceding first in the 26th minute.

Andre Onana, who got a weak hand to Mathias Jensen's low-driven shot, should have done better and Casemiro was also guilty for giving the ball away in the build-up to the goal, which saw him hooked at the interval.

Christian Eriksen came on for the Brazilian and other changes were made in the second half, however, United looked devoid of ideas and Brentford looked set to claim a well-deserved 1-0 win until the introduction of Scott McTominay.

McTominay replaced Soyan Amrabat in the 87th minute and he dramatically equalised in the third minute of injury time before remarkably scoring again to win the game in the seventh minute of added time.

United have McTominay to thank for the victory and Fernandes admitted he was relieved when speaking to MUTV.

"Relief, happiness and we all agree that we deserved this result because during the 90 minutes, we controlled the game really well and we could have scored in the first half," he said when asked about the dressing room's reaction.
