Next Aberdeen manager latest as former Motherwell star becomes joint-favourite for Pittodrie job after Bradford City sacking

Bradford City have parted company with former Motherwell star Derek Adams as he jumps up in odds to become the next manager at Aberdeen.

Adams guided Morecambe to an unlikely promotion from League Two to League One last season but opted to remain in England's fourth tier with Bradford.

He signed a three-year deal last summer at Valley Parade but has lasted just 37 competitive fixtures, resulting in nine victories, 13 defeats and 15 draws.

Aberdeen sacked manager Stephen Glass following a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup on Saturday and Adams has now jumped up to 2/1 joint-favourite with St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin, according to BetVictor.

The 46-year-old joined Motherwell in a deal worth £200,000 in 1998 and stayed for six years. He was one of the players impacted by the Fir Park side's administration problems.

Adams had two spells as a player at Aberdeen.

Bradford's chief executive officer, Ryan Sparks, said: “On behalf of the board, it is with deep regret that we have come to the decision to part company with Derek Adams.

“A sustained period of consideration has led to this decision and it is felt that, with all things taken into account, the club must move in a different direction with regards to the role of first-team manager.

“We would like to thank Derek for his efforts while at Valley Parade, and wish him the very best for the future.”
