Watch: Bradford City show solidarity with Ukraine in powerful gesture during Mark Hughes' first game

Bradford City FC and Mansfield Town fans came together in a moment of solidarity as they showed their support for Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian forces.

In conjunction with the Ukrainian community in Bradford, the football club announced that it would be encouraging supporters at Valley Parade to rise to their feet on the 30th minute of the game yesterday (Saturday) and applaud.

The gesture was to show support for the Eastern European country as Russian forces continue their invasion.

The Bradford Ukie Club tweeted a video of the minute of applause, saying it was a "very special moment of solidarity" between local Ukrainians "and the entire city of Bradford and its football club".

You can watch footage of the emotional moment fans of both Bradford and Mansfield started applauding below.

The commentator described it as a "great show of unity and solidarity in what is a very difficult moment globally", adding that they were "special, special scenes".

Mark Hughes’ first game as Bradford manager ended in defeat though as Mansfield extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a 2-0 win in front of a bumper 16,797 crowd at Valley Parade.

The former Wales and Manchester City boss was a surprise choice to succeed Derek Adams who was sacked last week and has returned to his old club Morecambe.

Hughes, who had been out of management since leaving Southampton three years ago, received a standing ovation as he took his seat in the dugout, but Mansfield spoiled the party mood as Bradford slipped to their fourth defeat in a row.
