Newly-promoted National League South side Folkestone Invicta sign ex-Ebbsfleet United striker Aaron Cosgrave and make midfielder Alex Woodyard’s loan move a permanent one
Former Ebbsfleet United striker Aaron Cosgrave will come up against his old club in the 2026/27 National League South season.
The 26-year-old, one of six players released by Fleet boss Josh Wright, has joined Jay Saunders’ newly-promoted Folkestone Invicta side.
A former West Ham and Colchester United youngster, Cosgrave has also represented Havant & Waterlooville, Chelmsford City and AFC Wimbledon, as well as Welling United and Dover on loan, before he made a loan switch from FC Halifax Town to Ebbsfleet permanent in 2024.
“I’m really pleased to get Aaron over the line,” manager Saunders told the club website on Friday. “He’s someone I’ve known for a long time, probably since he was about 17.
“He’s got bundles of pace and desire. His work-rate is second to none and he can play in a couple of positions so, for us, it’s a great addition to the squad. He also knows the level well and the level above.
“This year for us - in the forward areas especially - it’s about having different options and Aaron certainly gives us something we’ve not had for the last few years.”
Cosgrave has derbies against Maidstone United, Tonbridge Angels and Dover to look forward to, as well, alongside a potential Stonebridge Road return.
He added: “I know Jay and Parky [joint-assistant manager Tom Parkinson] well from when I was younger so, when I heard they were interested, it was a no-brainer for me.
“I think the club is really ambitious and, hopefully, I can bring some of my experience and help us to do well.”
The news of Cosgrave’s arrival came one day after midfielder Alex Woodyard made his loan move from National League Sutton United a permanent one.
Gravesend-born Woodyard, 33, signed on loan for Invicta in January and made 15 appearances
