Newcastle United have 'problem' with Sven Botman

Newcastle United target Sven Botman wants to join AC Milan this summer, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lille defender was linked with a move to St James’ Park last month and is still thought to be on the Tyneside club’s shortlist, but Jones thinks the San Siro is the more likelier destination.

Botman is a man in demand right now. According to The Telegraph, the 22-year-old, who Lille demanded £46m for in January after Newcastle registered their interest, is being eyed by Tottenham.

It is believed that Newcastle will try to sign Botman again in the summer, with Fabrizio Romano telling listeners of his Here We Go podcast that the Frenchman is still a target for the club.

The two Premier League outfits, however, are expected to be joined by Milan in the race for Botman, as Romano has also revealed that the Italian giants have held positive talks with the player’s agents over a potential transfer.

Botman has been a key player for Lille this season, starting in 17 of their Ligue 1 fixtures, but it looks like his time at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy is coming to an end.

In line with Romano’s words, Jones thinks Botman is edging towards a move to Stefano Pioli’s side.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “This is the problem you’ve got with Newcastle.

“On one side, you can attract players with your exciting project. On the other hand, you haven’t got that pedigree and heritage that might bring other players in, and I think from what I’m told, Sven Botman is very much won over by the idea of playing for AC Milan and everything that it encapsulates.”
