Newcastle United could 'bid' for former Liverpool striker and Memphis Depay transfer claim

Here is your 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Former Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is enjoying an impressive campaign to date with Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin. The 24-year-old forward has netted 17 times in all competitions, with the Mail Online recently claiming the Nigerian international is attracting attention from Premier League clubs.

Newcastle are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, and Fichajes.net have linked the Magpies with Awoniyi along with Southampton and West Ham. Liverpool are set to bank 10% of the striker's next transfer fee, and the report claims Union Berlin would look for a fee in the region of £18m.

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay rebuilt his reputation with Lyon following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford. The Dutch international moved to Barcelona on a free transfer last summer, but his future with the Catalan giants has been cast into doubt after falling out of favour under Ronald Koeman's replacement Xavi.

Depay only signed a two-year deal with the club, leading to claims Barcelona could look to cash-in on the 28-year-old. Spanish outlet Superdeporte claim Newcastle, as well as Arsenal and Everton, have all inquired about a prospective summer transfer.
