Dean Smith hopeful Norwich City can capitalise on Newcastle United's away form

Norwich City boss Dean Smith is hopeful his side can capitalise on Newcastle United's away form this weekend at Carrow Road. The Magpies have not won a Premier League match at Carrow Road since 1994 and are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the division.

The Canaries grabbed a point against the ten men of Newcastle at St. James' Park back in November and have had contrasting fortunes since then. The two sides were both locked in a battle against the drop but the Magpies have now hit 40 points for the campaign on the back of three consecutive home wins, and Eddie Howe's side are aiming for a top-half finish.

In contrast, Smith's side remain bottom of the Premier League and are eight points adrift from safety, with Everton in 17th place having played a game less than City. It would take quite something for the Canaries to overhaul that margin before the end of the season and they have just six games to do so.

Speaking at the Norwich City press conference, Smith said: "We played them in November time and we were in similar positions at their place. Obviously the January window they've spent big and bought in some big players, really good players at this level.

"With that, they've gone on a really good run, especially at home. They've won six on the spin and they'll want to try to improve their away record but we're fighting for our lives now as well.

"Every game in the Premier League is difficult but we're in a must win mentality with the position we are in the league. We can't look at other results until we get results ourselves so we must go all out to win on Saturday.
