Newcastle 'tempted to make another bid' for £60m star at St James' Park

Newcastle United are “tempted” to make another offer for Leicester City star James Maddison, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Tyneside club have already had two bids rejected for the attacking midfielder, but Jones says they are now weighing up making a third proposal.

As per The Guardian, Newcastle recently had a £50m offer for Maddison rejected, which was their second bid for the player.

According to the newspaper, Leicester are looking for a figure closer to £60m, so the Magpies are not far away from their asking price.

Leicester are having a bit of financial trouble right now, hence their lack of signings, but manager Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Newcastle and other clubs will not be able to exploit that.

“There is, obviously, within the club a financial situation which isn’t ideal in terms of wanting to do business,” Rodgers said. “It doesn’t mean we will be exploited and we don’t want to be losing our best players.”

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle are not giving up on Maddison yet and are considering making a fresh bid for the Englishman.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “They’re tempted to go one more time for James Maddison. They’ve been weighing it up. The thing that they really like about James Maddison is that he’s quite flexible in what he can bring to them.

“If you look at Newcastle at the weekend, what [Miguel] Almiron and [Allan] Saint-Maximin offer, it’s just not quite there in terms of if you’re going to knock on the door of the top six. They’re just probably going to be short of the creativity needed.”
