Newcastle: Sky Sports reporter drops update on new midfielder at St James' Park

Newcastle United have been linked with two new unnamed midfielders at St James’ Park and will be working down their list of targets, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Eddie Howe has overseen a relatively quiet transfer window in the North East but still has time to add to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

According to The Sun, Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher has been made the Magpies’ number one priority for the remainder of the summer window.

The report claims that the Blues are looking for £40 million in order to sell the 22-year-old, with Newcastle seeking alternatives to James Maddison.

Leicester City have already rejected two bids for the attacking midfielder from St James’ Park, with the latter worth up to £50 million.

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach star Kouadio Kone has joined the list of targets for Newcastle, according to L’Equipe.

The French outlet claims that Newcastle are set to submit an offer of around £29.5 million for the France under-21 international.

Downie understands that Newcastle are being linked with increasing numbers of midfielders due to player agents ramping up their activity.

The Sky Sports reporter claims two new names had been mentioned to him in connection with Newcastle by representatives in just one morning.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT: “You’ve got to remember at this stage in the window, with just over a week left, agents are well aware of what clubs are looking for in certain positions. That’s why, obviously, a lot of names are circulating there.

“I’m not saying that these are true or not, but I have already, this morning, had another two names put to me that have come from agents as well. So players are going to be getting hocked around at this time of the window.
