Newcastle target Harry Maguire and other Manchester United transfer rumours

Newcastle are ready to enter the race to sign Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, according to reports, as the Old Trafford giants consider letting him go during the summer transfer window.

Maguire, 30, has slipped behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the pecking order this season. He has managed to play 21 matches in all competitions, but Maguire has only totted up 1,000 minutes.

Speculation over his future remains at fever pitch. United want to make at least two major signings when the market reopens, while they could yet swoop for a third should Maguire opt to move on in order to get regular minutes elsewhere in the Premier League - with Euro 2024 on the horizon.

Reports from 90min credit Saudi-backed Newcastle with interest in Maguire and indicate they are among the favourites to sign him on account of their likely European qualification. West Ham and Wolves have, also, been mooted as potential suitors as talk spirals heading towards the off-season.

Maguire signed for United from Leicester City for £80million coming up four years ago. Since then, the centre-back has made 165 appearances in all competitions with seven goals and five assists.

Elsewhere, reports from Football Insider argue United are planning to "hijack" a summer move for highly-rated targetman Benjamin Sesko as he prepares to join RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg when the market reopens. Sesko has long-since been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
