Harry Maguire could give Manchester United a new transfer priority

The international break gives Manchester United much-needed time to rest and reflect on their season so far, but it also gives them a chance to look ahead to the summer as well.

Erik ten Hag will welcome the opportunity to take a breather after a frantic three months and no doubt use the time to look at what can be improved upon in the final matches of the campaign as well as beyond that.

It is well documented that signing a striker is the priority for the summer transfer window, while there is also interest in adding another creative midfielder to the squad as well.

No matter what happens regarding a possible takeover of the club, selling players will also be a priority at the end of the season, with Ten Hag well aware of the need to overhaul his squad and cash-in on players who still possess a reasonable market value.

The Manchester Evening News understands Anthony Martial is among the players who will be listed for sale, with club captain Harry Maguire is another headline name who will likely leave.

Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Alex Telles will also be allowed to leave, and the club could consider offers for Scott McTominay. It is less certain whether Donny van de Beek will be sold following his latest injury setback, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka's recent resurgence may have saved his Old Trafford career.

United would hardly miss most of those eight players if they were to leave at the end of the season, though it is clear they would need to replace a few of them even just to have enough squad members to rely upon.
