Newcastle: Fabrizio Romano drops update on £40m star at St James' Park

Newcastle United are not in for Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

While the 28-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan, there has been talk about him cancelling it and his contract at Stamford Bridge ahead of a potential move to Eddie Howe’s side.

Last summer, Bakayoko joined Milan on a two-year loan deal, but it appears that he is looking to cut that short.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), the Frenchman wants to terminate both his contracts with Milan and Chelsea so that he can join another team for free.

In terms of where Bakayoko could end up, a report from Calciomercato claims Newcastle have strong interest in him.

While it appears that Bakayoko’s next club could be getting him for free, Chelsea had to pay £40m when they signed him from AS Monaco back in 2017.

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that there is actually not anything in the Bakayoko to St James’ Park rumours.

When asked if there is any truth in the speculation, the Italian journalist said to GMS: “At the moment, I’m told no. I think it’s more likely for him to stay in Italy, if not with AC Milan, then with Monza. There are some options.”

Given the upward trajectory Newcastle are on, they can probably do even better than Bakayoko.

Since their takeover last year, they have already landed the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, the latter costing the club a record £60m after he made the move from Real Sociedad last week.

The above is not to say that Bakayoko is a terrible player; however, he has had his struggles in the Premier League with Chelsea.
