Newcastle: 'Exceptional' £120k-a-week star will 'cause damage' at St James' Park

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is yet to show his true potential and will form a formidable partnership with Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin when his new St James’ Park team-mates return to action, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies spent more than £120million bolstering head coach Eddie Howe’s squad during the summer transfer window and a large chunk of that amount was used to lure Isak to Tyneside.

Newcastle smashed their club-record transfer fee in order to acquire Isak from Spanish outfit Real Sociedad, with the frontman setting them back £63million.

The Magpies were only able to get a deal over the line after he lowered his wage demands from £200,000-per-week to £120,000-per-week.

Howe was overjoyed after the move was completed and described Isak as ‘an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team’.

The 23-year-old has made an instant impact at St James’ Park, scoring twice in his opening three appearances, including on debut against Liverpool.

Isak was forced into withdrawing from Sweden’s squad after sustaining an injury last week, meaning he has been unable to add to his 37 caps during the current international break.

Despite already making a promising start to his Newcastle career, Downie believes Isak will get even better when he has Wilson and Saint-Maximin alongside him.

The Sky Sports reporter is impressed with how the frontman, who was previously described by Gary Lineker as ‘exceptional’, has performed in their absence.
