Newcastle: £74k-a-week star 'feels disrespected' at St James' Park

Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron will feel as though he has ‘got a point to prove’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 28-year-old has been one of the surprise packages of the season so far, putting in some impressive displays for the Magpies and potentially silencing some of his critics in the process.

Almiron joined Newcastle from Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United back in January 2019 in what was then a club-record £21 million deal.

The Paraguay international penned a five-and-a-half-year contract worth £74,000-per-week upon his arrival and stated that he would try to ‘repay the trust’ that the club had placed in him.

“I think it is a great responsibility, something beautiful for me, and I will try to offer the best I can to repay the trust the club put in me,” said Almiron.

However, the versatile star failed to live up to expectations, registering just nine goals and three assists in his opening 110 Premier League games for Newcastle.

That led to speculation that Almiron could be offloaded in the summer as Eddie Howe continues to overhaul his first-team squad, but he ended up staying put and dramatically improving his displays.

Jones believes that Almiron has been a ‘little bit disrespected’ during his time on English shores and that the player will also feel as though he ‘hasn’t quite delivered’ his best form.

“I think that he also probably feels like he hasn’t quite delivered at the level that he’s capable of. I saw him before he came
