Newcastle: £40m midfielder now has ‘option’ to move to St James’ Park

Newcastle United are an option for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek once the January transfer window reopens, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his midfield at St James’ Park, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies spent more than £120 million in the summer transfer window but will soon have the chance to make further investments at the start of 2023.

According to 90min, United have granted the 25-year-old permission to leave Old Trafford once the winter window opens for business.

The report adds that Van de Beek has been informed of the club’s stance and could now seal a loan move away with a number of Premier League clubs interested as well as Eredivisie sides PSV and Ajax, his former club.

It is understood that Italian giants Inter Milan are also considering bringing the player to the San Siro, leaving Van de Beek with plenty of options.

He only made the move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 in a £40 million deal but has struggled to make an impact and was loaned out to Everton for the second half of last season.

Now back in the North West, he has had little luck under his former boss Erik Ten Hag, playing just 19 minutes of top-flight football this term.

Jones understands that Newcastle hold an interest in signing Van de Beek and the North East side could be an option for him in January.

The journalist adds that Howe is eager to add to his midfield options and the 19-cap Netherlands international could be an option.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Newcastle is one option. They want a central midfielder, still, and I think he might fit the bill.”
