Newcastle ‘advance their pawns’ to sign sought-after PSG youngster

According to reports, Newcastle United have ‘advanced their pawns’ to sign PSG youngster Arnaud Kalimuendo during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for PSG during the 2020/21 campaign.

Frenchman has spent most of the last two years on loan at their Ligue 1 rivals Lens.

Kalimuendo has netted ten goals from his 28 appearances in the league this term. Overall, the forward has grabbed 19 goals and six assists from his 61 outings for Lens.

The youngster has been capped at youth level for France. He has netted four goals from his nine caps for France’s U21 side.

Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Kalimuendo is ‘ready to extend his contract’ at PSG. His current deal expires in 2024.

But Newcastle are named as a potential suitor should he exit PSG. It is noted that his showings have ‘caught attention elsewhere’.

The Magpies have ‘recently advanced their pawns’ to sign Kalimeundo. PSG meanwhile will ‘think about their strategy’ and may decide to cash in on their young player this summer.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United beat Norwich City 3-0 over the weekend. Eddie Howe is hopeful his side’s performance showed ‘glimpses of the future’:

“We were very good after we scored. The opening stages were very tight. We knew it would be coming here. Norwich are a good team and were motivated to do well today. We knew we had to see out the early stages of the game.

“We were very keen today to extend the good run we are on and not fall into any lull or falling of standards. That is the most pleasing thing of the day, that we have come here and been very professional.
