Newcastle: 'Admired' 19 y/o starlet now 'set to get chance' at St James' Park

Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson is ‘admired’ at St James’ Park and it is only a matter of time before he is handed the first Premier League start of his career, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies have enjoyed a steady start to the season, having suffered just one defeat, and Anderson has played his part.

Anderson is back on Tyneside after spending the second half of last season on loan with Bristol Rovers, who are managed by former Newcastle star Joey Barton.

Although Magpies head coach Eddie Howe has revealed he was hopeful of sanctioning a temporary switch to a club higher up the pyramid, the move paid off for the academy product.

Anderson played a key role in the Gas earning promotion to League One as he found the back of the net eight times and recorded a further five assists.

The midfielder’s exploits with Barton’s side, along with a successful pre-season at Newcastle, resulted in a queue of clubs wanting to negotiate another loan deal, but Howe opted to hold onto Anderson.

Although the 19-year-old has entered the final two years of his St James’ Park contract, it is understood that he is in line to be offered fresh terms.

Jones understands that Anderson is highly-rated behind the scenes at Newcastle and they have been impressed with his application.

The journalist feels the one-cap Scotland under-21 international will be handed his first Premier League start in the not-too-distant future.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s really admired and every challenge that they’ve put in front of him he’s been able to overcome.

“I don’t think it’ll be long until he’s getting the odd start in the Premier League, the way that he’s going at the moment.”
