Newcastle: £76m target 'massive signal of intent' at St James' Park
Newcastle United signing Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak this summer would send out a “massive signal of intent”, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 22-year-old is the latest striker to be linked with a move to St James’ Park as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen in that area of the pitch.
According to 90min, Newcastle are considering a move for Isak and talks have already taken place between intermediaries.
Bruno Guimaraes is currently their most expensive signing following his arrival from Lyon in January, with that transfer believed to be worth around £42m when all add-ons are included, but the Sweden international could smash that.
At present, he is valued at £76m by the CIES Football Observatory, which is the same figure as his release clause.
If Newcastle can pull it off, O’Rourke is confident that the Premier League outfit signing Isak would bring real excitement to St James’ Park.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “To get somebody of the calibre of Isak would be a massive signal of intent from Newcastle that they are mixing it with the big boys, trying to sign the best players around. He is somebody I think that would really excite all Newcastle fans with his style of play.”
Isak is a striker who would drastically improve Howe’s side, so he is an individual worth pursuing.
The 2021/22 campaign was not his best season, with the Real Sociedad star managing to score just six league goals.
However, the campaign prior, Isak registered 17 times in La Liga, so the ability to finish is clearly there. He is, of course, still just 22, so he could get better and become more consistent.
