Newcastle: Howe now suffers 'huge blow' over £120k-a-week star at St James' Park

Newcastle United losing Alexander Isak to injury is a “huge blow”, says journalist Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old striker has been dealing with a thigh problem and is now unlikely to put on a black and white shirt until after the World Cup.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently confirmed that Isak has suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury.

“We don’t think we’ll see [him] again before the World Cup,” the 44-year-old told reporters. “Unfortunately, he’s had a setback on his thigh.”

Isak arrived at St James' Park from Real Sociedad over the summer in a club-record £60m deal(via BBC Sport) and was able to make an instant impact.

He scored on his debut, registering in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool as the Magpies went toe-to-toe with Jurgen Klopp's side. Howe, though, will now have to try and cope without his expensive signing.

Jones says Isak's injury is a setback for Newcastle and a frustrating development for the player.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I mean, it's a huge blow, isn't it? There was such big intent with that signing and they considered it so carefully. He was going to become that big name that livens up the attacking line.

"They went for it; they got him. He started reasonably well, still finding his feet in the Premier League, but he needs that regularity of games, and to have a spell out of the team is obviously hugely frustrating."

Without a doubt. Isak is obviously a talented player, scoring 17 league goals in his penultimate season in Spain.
