Newcastle: £30m Premier League star 'definitely on the list' at St James' Park

Newcastle United cannot be ruled out of contention to sign Armando Broja as the Chelsea striker is ‘definitely on the list’ of targets put together at St James’ Park, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies are able to splash the cash after a £305million takeover led by the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund made the Tyneside giants the richest club in world football last October.

According to i News, Newcastle United and Everton are going head-to-head in a battle to acquire Broja’s services this summer.

The report suggests the Magpies have an ongoing interest in the 14-cap Albania international and Chelsea may be open to sanctioning a loan move away from Stamford Bridge.

It was reported earlier this month that West Ham United were poised to make a £30million bid for Broja, while it was even claimed that the Hammers were close to reaching an agreement, but a switch to the London Stadium has not come to fruition.

Broja sprung to prominence while spending last season on loan with Southampton, where he scored nine goals in 38 outings.

Downie understands that Newcastle are among the clubs vying to secure Broja’s services ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.
