Newcastle 'definitely interested' in £120k-a-week star at St James' Park

Newcastle United ‘definitely have an interest’ in Callum Hudson-Odoi and could look to lure the Chelsea winger to St James’ Park ahead of the September 1 deadline, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe has already spent close to £60million on strengthening his squad since the summer window opened for business, but there is still time for further reinforcements to head to Tyneside.

Newcastle have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi as Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has hinted that a move could be on the cards.

It comes after the wide-man has not played a single minute of the Blues’ opening two fixtures of the campaign.

Newcastle – along with West Ham United and Leicester City – have reportedly registered an interest in Hudson-Odoi with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

Premier League rivals Southampton and Everton are also understood to be keen on striking a deal, while Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are long-term admirers.

Hudson-Odoi appears to have opened the door for a move away from Stamford Bridge as he has asked to secure a loan switch.

Jones understands that Newcastle are eager to fight off stiff competition from other suitors and secure Hudson-Odoi’s services.

The transfer insider believes that Howe, who was appointed as the Magpies’ head coach last November, has identified the right-wing as a position he needs to strengthen.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Hudson-Odoi – and players of that kind – they’ll definitely have an interest in them.

“They have to fix that problem they’ve got on the right side of their attack. They see it as a real problem.”
