Newcastle 1-1 Leicester City half-time player ratings as Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton impress
Newcastle United headed into half-time on level terms with Leicester City after Bruno Guimaraes cancelled out Ademola Lookman's opening goal.
After an opening to the match that was devoid of creativity, Leicester hit the front in the 19th minute. It's Newcastle who have been so strong at set-plays this season, and Leicester who have been so vulnerable from corners and free-kicks, but it was the hosts undone by a training ground routine as Lookman squeezed an effort through on goal after Ayoze Perez's flick.
Allan Saint-Maximin was almost through on goal in the 26th minute but his mazy run was thwarted by a last ditch challenge from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall but Newcastle were level on the half hour mark.
Guimaraes forced Kasper Schmeichel into a save from close range but the Dane failed to grasp it and the Brazilian international forced the ball home at the second attempt. After disallowing the goal originally for a foul on the Foxes goalkeeper, referee Jared Gillett awarded the goal after consulting with VAR.
Newcastle took over from that point on and Chris Wood had appeals for a penalty waved away before he flashed a header wide from a Joelinton cross.
But ultimately neither team were able to establish a lead as they headed into half-time. Here are Lee Ryder's half-time player ratings.
Will be furious with the marking for Leicester's opener. A soft goal to concede.
Continuing his steady form. One of United's unsung heroes of late.
Keeping the defence together. A real leader's display at the back so far.
Recovered from an early injury scare to marshall the defence.
A relatively solid game so far with some key interceptions. May feel he could have done better during build-up to the equaliser.
Giving Leicester a real headache
