Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has thanked Magpies legend Alan Shearer for the support he has shown him since arriving at St. James’ Park at the start of the year.

The Brazilian signed from Ligue 1 club Lyon for £33.5 million in the January transfer window and after having to bide his time for his first start in the side, he has gone on to score four goals and record one assist in eight starts on Tyneside.

And the 24-year-old has thanked Shearer for his backing since moving to the club, with the Premier League legend reaching out to him shortly after securing his big money move to the Magpies.

After officially signing for Eddie Howe’s side, Shearer sent Guimaraes a text message just hours after he had agreed to join the St. James’ Park outfit, in what was a warm welcome from the 51-year-old that left its mark on the Brazilian.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Guimaraes said: "When I signed with Newcastle, on the first day he already followed me on Twitter and texted me good luck. He's a legend, Newcastle's top scorer, without a doubt the greatest player, so for me it's gratifying.
