New walking trail featuring ‘Manchester’s best green spaces’ to be launched

A new walking trail celebrating the ‘best green, blue and outdoor areas’ in the city centre is being launched ahead of summer. The Manchester Green Spaces Trail will take visitors on a route through the centre, stopping by parks, gardens and water spaces along the way.

The trail comes after Mayfield Depot hosted the first ever RHS Urban Show in Manchester over the weekend and ahead of the Manchester Flower Festival, which is taking place across the city centre over the May Bank Holiday, from May 24 - 27. It aims to encourage people to explore and discover the city’s outdoor spaces.

Commissioned by Manchester Accommodation BID (Business Improvement District) on behalf of city centre hotels, the trail features 16 garden and water spaces within central Manchester and Salford. Accompanying each entry is a description with historic and current facts about their site, significance and beauty.

The trail has been written by Manchester tour guide Jonathan Schofield and it’s aimed not just at tourists but workers and residents of the city so they can discover the outdoor spaces on their doorstep. A map of the route can be downloaded at cityco.com, while print copies will be available to pick-up at The Manchester Flower Festival (Information Point, St Ann's Square May 24-27).
