New twist after former Manchester United player Charlie Savage blocked from playing for new club
Charlie Savage will be allowed to play for new club Reading after he was registered by the EFL in time to face Peterborough United.
The former Manchester United player has been caught in the middle of an ongoing financial feud which had seen him blocked from playing. His new club, Reading, had been placed under a transfer embargo due to an unpaid bill to HMRC.
The Royals were relegated to League One last season having been hit by a six-point deduction which contributed to their demise. Reading have been surrounded in uncertainty all summer and their problems remain on the eve of the new season.
Reading were under a transfer embargo for much of the summer but that was lifted, allowing them to sign Savage from United as well as midfielder Lewis Wing on a free transfer - or so they thought.

No sooner was the red tape removed, it returned again, with the club placed back under restrictions due to unpaid taxes. However, that debt has now been settled and Savage will be allowed to feature against Peterborough on Saturday.
Robbie Savage, Charlie's dad, tweeted the news: "Can't wait to watch @charliesavage84 on Saturday, come on @ReadingFC."
Despite the positive update, Royals fans remain unhappy with the current regime. Fans have set up a group called 'Sell Before We Dai' and plan protests outside the stadium ahead of the season opener at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
