New Stirling Albion boss insists side won't take a backwards step next season after busy summer

New Stirling Albion manager Alan Maybury admits it’s been a whirlwind start to his time in the Forthbank hotseat.

But he has asked for patience from the Stirling faithful and has promised to bring the thrills as he attempts to guide the Binos back to League One after a disappointing relegation last time out.

The former Republic of Ireland international – who turned out for clubs including Hearts, Leicester City, St Johnstone and Hibernian during a long career – is back in the saddle after leaving his last job at Edinburgh City in October 2023.

One of the Dubliner’s first jobs will be to revamp the squad after a busy summer of departures, with the new boss insisting work is underway behind the scenes to get fresh faces in the door.

Maybury told the club’s media channel: “It’s been busy, I feel like I’ve been here a while.

“I was away last week and spent my time on the phone trying to connect with a couple of players who were here previously whose contracts have lapsed so we’re working hard to maybe keep one or two who have been part of the success before.

“We’re trying to reach and recruit new players from within the budget we have and hopefully we’re very close on a couple of those already and when we start training next week, it will just be the start of the process.

“We’re looking to build on a core of a good squad here with some younger ones and some players who can help us achieve what we’re looking to do this season.”

The Stirling support has been left restless after a chaotic summer which saw the departure of previous boss Darren Young and a managerial process which saw former Albion captain Chris Aitken initially approached before the job was finally offered to Maybury.
