New Netflix show with 98% Rotten Tomatoes score viewers say is 'practically perfect'

An animated adaption of the 2010 cult classic Scott Pilgrim has been hailed as 'practically perfect' by fans - and it has a Rotten Tomatoes score to match.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, an eight-part animated series, debuted on Netflix last Friday (November 17). The original film was based on a series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, which was released in six volumes between 2004 and 2010.

The film adaptation was released in 2010 and has since developed a cult following. The new series sees the cast reunite to voice their iconic characters.

It stars Michael Cera as the titular slacker and musician who lives in Toronto, Canada. Scott meets and falls in love with the hip Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), but must defeat her seven evil exes before the two can date.

The film boasted an ensemble cast who have all reprised their roles for the series, including Marvel stars Chris Evans and Brie Larson, Succession’s Kieran Culkin, and Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick. Other returning cast members include Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman, Ellen Wong, and Satya Bhabha.

The series has been well-received by both critics and fans - with many calling for a second season to be made. It's scored an impressive 98% critics' score on review site Rotten Tomatoes, with Diego Batlle of Otroscines.com describing it as: "A work of art with its own trajectory that applies several of the best elements of anime and action comedy".
