New Folkestone Invicta defender Kevin Lokko, a former Football League player, out to prove why he thinks he’ll be one of the best Isthmian Premier players this season

Folkestone defender Kevin Lokko is out to prove why he thinks he’ll be one of the best players in Isthmian Premier this season.

The former Football League centre-half will look to add to the solitary medal he’s won in his senior career - the delayed 2019/20 FA Trophy while at Harrogate - as he targets promotion with Invicta.

Lokko, 29, says he’s never played at Step 3 before, although knows many players who have.

But he’s confident he can be a standout performer in the division under boss Jay Saunders.

He said: “I’ve never played at this level before, but I know a lot of players that have played in this division. A lot of players that I’ve spoken to often say it’s very unpredictable.

“There’s a lot of good, talented players, but there seems to be a bit of a sort of mix of really tough players and maybe some players have not played that division and it can be quite unpredictable.

“But it seems like the talent and the quality of the division is getting stronger and it’d be wrong of me and other players who are potentially dropping down to the Isthmian levels to think it will be a walk in the park.

“I’m certainly preparing myself as if I’m playing [Football] League football, National League football.

“I know, if you take your foot off the gas and think that you’re in for an easy ride, you’re going to get shown up and so I’ll be preparing as well as I can to go into the season as if I’m playing at the highest level so nothing changes in that respect.

“I’m preparing as much as I can for a difficult campaign but I’m really excited to showcase myself.

“I do think, if I perform at my best, I’ll be probably one of the better players in the division so that’s up to me to prove that to everyone and show what I’m capable of.

“Hopefu
