Faversham Town manager Tommy Warrilow keeping calm despite injury blows to No.1 Jacob Russell and Frannie Collin in 4-0 pre-season friendly loss to Folkestone Invicta

Boss Tommy Warrilow is keeping calm despite a series of Faversham Town injury setbacks.

First-choice keeper Jacob Russell was among those to come off in last Saturday’s home 4-0 pre-season friendly defeat against Isthmian Premier Folkestone.

It left midfielder Harrison Pont - who famously saved a penalty taken by Gillingham fans’ favourite Adebayo Akinfenwa while at Sittingbourne in 2023 - to don the gloves at Salters Lane again.

Veteran Frannie Collin (ankle) is also struggling, as well as striker Johan Caney-Bryan. Both Caney-Bryan and No.1 Russell have groin problems.

Warrilow said: “Saturday was mental!

"I was without four, anyway, and then four got injured.

“Ponty went in goal, which was good of him.

“He was a bit stiff and only supposed to play 45 minutes but, when Jacob went down, I told him ‘This is your own fault for saving a penalty here before!’.

“No reflection on him but, if Jacob was in goal, some of those goals on Saturday don’t happen.

“I was as happy as I could be. We just need to tidy up a few things.

“It was a good work-out and a good day - but a bit disappointing to pick up those injuries.”

Russell and Caney-Bryan came off before half-time while Collin, 38, managed 78 minutes before he made way for Taylor Angrabeit.

Fellow youth-team prospect Teddy Isaacs was introduced in the second half for Nathan Wood (quad), taken off as a precautionary measure.

Warrilow said: “Jacob couldn’t kick the ball. He must have felt something in that area.

“I spoke to Jacob on Sunday. Of course, he was a little bit down but we’ve got some cover in.

"There’s not much more we can do until we know the full extent of Jacob’s injury.

“Frannie’s done his ankle ligaments, as well. They’re two players that will be sorely missed.
