Emergency crews, 'warzones' and a car on fire: The dust settles after a Bonfire Night of chaos
Greater Manchester is waking up following a night of chaos after flames soared and emergency crews came under attack. Bonfire Night turned sour in several incidents across the region on Tuesday night (November 5).
Salford, east Manchester and Tameside saw some of the most serious incidents, with fireworks used as missiles and fires 'started deliberately'. In Gorton, Vine Street 'turned into a warzone' as a car was set alight before police and firefighters responding to the mob of '20 or 30' were attacked with fireworks.
Youths were reportedly seen throwing fireworks and missiles at each other. Some passing vehicles were narrowly avoided, while others were 'caught in the crossfire'.

Three males, aged 16 to 18, have since been arrested and officers are warning that more will be detained. Later on in Gorton, fire crews were also seen in attendance off Hyde Road, near to the old Gorton Tub.
Superintendent Richard McNamara, of GMP’s City of Manchester north district, said it was 'shocking' fireworks had been 'used as a weapon towards emergency services' - as he promised a 'thorough investigation' into the Vine Road disorder. In nearby Openshaw, six people were injured after being hit by a car in a horror hit and run on Bob Massey Close, at around 8.30pm.
It's believed people had gathered for Bonfire Night celebrations when the car was driven into pedestrians. A man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, assault on an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply and failing to stop for police.
Elsewhere in Manchester, there was concern for Green Quarter residents after fireworks
