Neil McCann questions Rangers boss Michael Beale's decision to skip Servette scouting trip
Neil McCann has been left wondering whether or not Rangers boss Michael Beale will have wished he'd taken a flight to see Servete with 10 men.
The Ibrox boss decided not to take a flight to Belgium for the Swiss side's eventual triumph over Genk in the second qualifying round. They played that out and won the tie on penalties after a 2-2 draw with 10 men, so when David Douline was sent off on the hour mark at Ibrox against Rangers, Servette knew exactly what to do.
Beale's side emerged 2-1 winners in Glasgow in the first leg of their third round qualifier but a stuffy Swiss rearguard prevented them from adding to the goals scored by James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers in the first half. Chris Bedia's penalty ensures the game stands at a one goal deficit heading into the Geneva second leg and former player McCann says choosing to meet new signing Jose Cifuentes over the scouting trip may be an opportunity missed. "He thought that would have been a wasted journey because they went down to 10 men. Well, in hindsight, it wouldn't have been. You would have been able to see them in the flesh and what they did with 10 men. They won the game tonight and that is really important. "
Beale said pre-match: "I watched both games. I was due to go to Brussels on Wednesday for the game and chose not to because Jose was arriving on Thursday and I wanted to be here.
