Neil Lennon reassures Celtic that defeat isn't 'terminal' and is convinced transfer reinforcements are coming

Neil Lennon insists there is no need for Celtic panic just yet - but they are found wanting in one element of their play.

The former boss was on punditry duties as he watched Brendan Rodgers' side crash out of the Viaplay Cup against Kilmarnock. A Marley Watkins goal in the second half was enough to send Derek McInnes' men through and put the Treble winners from last season out the competition at the first hurdle.

Lennon is convinced that boss Rodgers will make moves in the market but reckons the Irishman's side like one pass too many in the final third. He told Viaplay: "We said the first goal would be pivotal and Kilmarnock got it, and defended resolutely. They were worthy winners in the end. Celtic were a little flat and a work in progress for Brendan. It's very early in the season. The midfield and the final third is where they lacked the creativity, but I wouldn't push the panic button yet. It is so early in the season.

"I thought they started the game brightly but then they lost their way and it became a little bit pedestrian. They lacked the creativity today and didn't work the goalkeeper anywhere near enough.

"Sometimes they are guilty of overpassing it. They have dynamite going forward, Maeda Kyogo, Abada and I like the look of Yang as well. But they didn't get their shots off quickly enough and didn't shoot enough on the day, and took one pass too many.

"They are not perfect and like I said, they are a work in progress. I don't think it is terminal by any stretch of the imagination. This team will only get better and I am still convinced they are going to bring a couple of players in to improve the quality of the squad and performances."
