Neil Doncaster and Rangers jumping into bed over Sky TV deal is casting the rest of the Premiership adrift - Hotline
Rangers have struck a deal with Sky which will see one extra game being shown live from Ibrox by the broadcaster this season. In return Rangers will be allowed to show two more games on pay per view before the end of the campaign.
But even the news of extra live footage of our national sport had some callers crying foul. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Rangers slaughter the SFA over Collumgate. Now Neil Doncaster jumps into bed with them to broker a deal with Sky.
Sky couldn’t write a better script. The SFA casting all the other SPFL teams adrift without a paddle.” But Davie Thomson, Glasgow , said: “Good on Rangers and the powers that be for coming to an agreement that should see what looks likely to be a nip and tuck title race given a better coverage than would have been the case. Hopefully it’s the sign of things to come.
On the subject of TV deals Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “If it's so hard to attract sponsorship and to get TV coverage for Scottish football for games with crowds under 10,000 then why do the BBC and ITV cover the African Cup of Nations live? Do any of us really care? Probably the same as someone from Equatorial Guinea when watching Ross County versus St Johnstone.”
Talking of Ross County, chairman Roy McGregor has backed his boss Derek Adams’ criticism of the standard of Scottish football. And Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Whilst I'm no fan of Roy McGregor, he is spot on, as was Derek Adams, in saying how mediocre the quality of our SPFL is. Look at both Louis Moult and Kevin Van Veen, they score goals regularly here , then not a goal at higher level.”
Caller Liam Birney stoked the flames with his comments defending Scott Brown and re-writing the Premiership table on the back to two
