Neil Critchley issues injury update on Blackpool defender prior to Swansea City clash

Neil Critchley has revealed to the Blackpool Gazette it is “touch and go” when it comes to Jordan Thorniley’s availability for tomorrow’s clash at home to Swansea City. 

The 25-year-old, who has proven to be an important part of Critchley’s side since returning from a productive loan spell with Oxford United, picked up a whip-lash like injury against Stoke City during the week. 

The young defender has featured in all eight of Blackpool’s games since he was recalled by the Championship outfit, with his inclusion in doubt for tomorrow. 

Providing an update to the Blackpool Gazette about Thorniley’s situation, Critchley said: “He’s touch and go.

“He feels a bit better and he did a bit on the grass on Thursday.

“We need to see how he responds to that before we make a decision whether he trains today and whether he’ll be involved in the squad tomorrow.

“He’s not at 100 per cent, but we’re just hopeful he’s had a good night’s sleep and he gives us the green light today.

“His neck and shoulder went into spasm, it was like a whiplash injury really and that’s eased during the week but it’s still giving him a bit of discomfort.

“We just need to assess him again this morning.”

The verdict 

Thorniley has been mightily impressive since returning from Oxford, proving to be a more than competent defensive option at Championship level already. 

Given his influence since being recalled, it will be a shame for the 25-year-old himself and the rest of the squad if he is deemed unavailable to play tomorrow.

However, with Blackpool appearing to be set for mid-table mediocrity, it could allow Critchley to run the rule over Oliver Casey.
