Julen Lopetegui comments reveal his Man United job intentions as Varane issues injury update

Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui looks to have ruled himself out of the race to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager.

The 55-year-old has been linked as an outside contender for the role and was backed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to fill the void when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initially left. Lopetegui has had a terrific season with Sevilla, the La Liga club currently sitting second in the table.

He seemed to underline his happiness at the Spanish side when speaking to local media. "The [speculation], I can't help it," he began.

Former United attacker Diego Forlan has admitted to The Manchester Evening News he is puzzled by Edinson Cavani’s lack of game time at Old Trafford. The 35-year-old has started just six times in the league this season despite netting 17 goals last term.

Several reports claim the attacker will move on when his contract expires this summer. Forlan has questioned whether Ralf Rangnick has given him the chance to rediscover his form after a number of injuries.

"I don't know what has happened with him," he said. "I know he's been injured so many times, he's been unlucky.

"If he had that opportunity we would be talking about another Edinson Cavani. Because he scores goals, he's quick, he's strong, very physically strong, it would have been much better.”
