"Needs to shift people like that" - Journalist hints £16m star doesn't fit in at "new Newcastle"

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe should sanction Allan Saint-Maximin’s St James’ Park departure as he will not fit into the Magpies’ future plans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Saint-Maximin has become a fans’ favourite since swapping Nice for Tyneside in a £16million deal close to three years ago, but there are doubts over whether he will still be at the club next season.

Saint-Maximin’s £93,000-per-week contract still has more than four years to run, so Newcastle are not under pressure to cash-in on the winger.

However, the Magpies are reportedly open to offloading the 25-year-old if a bid in the region of £50million is tabled as his departure will enable Howe to boost his transfer kitty.

Aston Villa are understood to be monitoring developments, but it appears the Midlands outfit are not the only Premier League club mulling over whether to head to the negotiating table.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton are also interested, although the latter will only stump up the cash if they maintain their top flight status.

Saint-Maximin has moved closer to the exit door after Howe became concerned by the Frenchman’s hefty salary demands while seeking a new contract.

Jones has urged Newcastle to part ways with Saint-Maximin as they head into a new era next season.

The transfer insider feels being able to find a buyer for the wide-man will have an impact on who Howe is able to welcome to St James’ Park.
